Prednisone Tablets – Veterinary Use

• Active Ingredient: Prednisone
• Formulation: Oral tablets ( 5 mg, 10 mg, 15 mg)
• Species: Dogs (cats may require prednisolone due to limited hepatic conversion)
• Indications:
  • Anti-inflammatory: arthritis, dermatitis, colitis
  • Immunosuppressive: autoimmune hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia
  • Allergic conditions: asthma, atopic dermatitis
  • Adrenal insufficiency: replacement therapy for Addison’s disease
• Mechanism of Action:
  • Prednisone is converted in the liver to prednisolone
  • Suppresses inflammation by inhibiting leukocyte migration and cytokine release
  • Reduces immune activity by down regulating lymphocyte function
• Administration:
  • Oral administration with food to reduce GI upset
  • Dosage varies by indication, species, and patient response
  • Tapering recommended after prolonged use to prevent adrenal suppression
